Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Angel Shed and we could not do what we do without them. We run an extensive volunteer programme, engaging 30 performing arts volunteers each week across our six membership groups for children and young people aged 5-19. Our large volunteer team allows for a high ratio of adults to participants in each session and ensures the best possible support for all members.
What will I do?
All performing arts volunteers support Angel Shed’s Artistic Team in delivering our weekly sessions.
Our membership groups range from 15-30 children and young people per group and your role is to support the members to engage creatively with the sessions. We work in smaller groups within each session to ensure that all members can participate as fully as they can. You will be assigned a group for the term, working with 8-12 children together with other volunteers.
- Attend briefing and training before each session
- Lead or support inclusive games in small groups
- Be an active and engaged role model for members
- Support members to: engage with performing arts activities such as acting, singing and dancing; create their own scenes, movement phrases and songs; work inclusively with each other
- Perform with members on stage in end of term productions
You will never be left alone and there will always be an experienced volunteer or staff member with you.
What will I get?
We want volunteering at Angel Shed to be a rewarding and beneficial experience. We ensure that our volunteers are well looked after, their skills are developed, and they are provided with training and ongoing support. All volunteers get the following:
- Work experience in the performing arts
- Inclusive facilitation training
- Safeguarding training
- Free DBS check
- Employer references
- Paid expenses
Do I need any experience?
No prior experience is necessary to volunteer at Angel Shed, all we ask is that you fully commit to the role! Angel Shed is always looking for creative individuals who want:
- to gain experience and training in inclusive arts
- to be part of a valued volunteer team
- to make a different to the lives of children and young people in the community
We value working with people with different experiences, skills and backgrounds, as this is how we continue to learn and grow.
