MAKATON TRAINING
Makaton is a multi-modal communication programme that uses symbols (pictures), signs (gestures) and speech to support communication. It supports the development of essential communication and interpersonal skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and promotes independence and agency of choice.
Over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton symbols and signs, either as their main method of communication or as a way to support speech. It is often used with Disabled, autistic and neurodivergent young people and adults, including those with Down syndrome and those who are non-speaking, as well as early years to support the development of language. However, anyone can benefit from using Makaton.
